For the label’s 14th release, Memento welcomes the collaboration of Italy’s finest house enthusiasts Pastaboys, who bring their love of dance music’s black roots and afro-american soul sounds, combined with an exquisite european-influenced sense of rhythm and melodies. “Tresca” evolves around a sweet italo-disco bass that sends the listener back to the 70s: a soundtrack to a sleazy underground movie, with nightmare-ish synth chords in the background.

Strong claps and percussion build the tension up to a Donna Summer-esque break, leading the track to an anthemic climax ready to shake the asses of all the party people out there.

Argy’s remix adds loopy vocal samples while making the bass more muscular and playing with retro-sounding big-room house synths, perfectly matching the spirit of the original cut but at the same time taking it to the next level. A specta cular two-tracker, which stands out as a devoted tribute to the legacy that shaped the history of house and disco music, from turning inspiration into a brilliant and contemporary piece of work.

After remixing Idriss D’s smash-hit ‘Cross My Mind’, Lausanne’s Mirko Loko is back on Memento with a superb release taking us on a journey of delicate melodies and aethereal atmospheres, showing his unique talent in creating brilliant song structures and compositions.

And as if that wasn’t enough, Cadenza’s boss and musical master Luciano graces the Italian label with a personal take on Mirko’s track , once more highlighting his unrivalled vision in shaping emotional soundscapes and exquisitely fine sonic moods.

‘Gipsy-Q”s rhythm is lively and mesmerizing, with bubbly percussions and wispy bells interspersed with uplifting bright sounds.
At various points, a bass chord progression cuts through, giving the feeling of a dream-like fortune teller’s prayer moving in a persistent motion.

Luciano slows it down just a bit and designs a funkier bass line coupled with trippy aqueous drumming and out of time tribal choirs.
Rootsy and raw snare backbeats go hand in hand with swinging scat singings, and a rousing vagabond gitano feeling flows throughout the record.
The stream of ancestral rituals, the spirit of travellers who wander the lands and reach far away places is the inspiration behind this wonderful piece of work.
A folk ballad in its true original meaning, this one is made for the souls that roam the earth.

Two months only into the new year, Mirko Loko and Luciano give us another excellent example of their eclectic taste, already establishing this ep as a standout in Memento’s 2012 discography.

Memento12 showcases some of the label’s most daring works so far, ranging from sparse soundscapes to elaborate actual song structures, always keeping focused on the feeling and unique inspiration that are its distinctive trait.

Gas’ “Nighthawk” starts off on a jazzy intro with soft pads and takes the listener on a journey of drum rolls and delayed percussions. A crescendo of warm synths balances the gloomy vocal that goes “How does it feel when your heart grows cold?”. Stylish.

Simone Ferrari’s “Romantik” comes up with a minimal vibe made of ticking sounds and clicks, with laid back synth stabs to top off the kick-driven tune. For the right afterparty at sunrise.

Acirne’s “Circle of us” is designed around a quirky funky bass line and crazy spectral sounds. Atmospheric keyboards remind of early German electronic bands, and a growing spaced-out arpeggio turns into a whirlwind of emotions. Another off-the-wall track from Memento hottest girl.

Blue Mondays’ “Holes” sets an even higher standard with its menacing intro, hand-picked  bass guitar melody and a dark 80s-inspired singing which goes onto a break of feedback guitar sounds. Out of the ordinary to say the least, it’s a perfect blend of alternative electronic and the darker side of synth-pop.

After almost 4 years of exclusive releases on Richie Hawtin’s revered Minus, Fabrizio Maurizi a.k.a. Roger is back on his Memento Records, the underground Italian label he started with long time friend and musical soul mate Idriss D. His new Ep “The Secret Garden” shows a further departure from the early minimal-techno infused tracks he became widely known for: an original approach to structure and composition and a research for alternative sounds make these three recordings shine with fresh light and energy. Title track “The Secret Garden” comes up with a funky-inspired groovy bass line, along with bouncy vocal snippets, catchy snare rolls and mesmerizing synth stabs. “Magic Mirror” deep acquatic pads and percussive rhythm are perfectly designed for the dreaming dancefloor crowds, with doubled-up voice samples in the break giving a dizzying effect, while “Back Door” reminds of Fabrizio’s more upbeat and punchy vibes, with time-stretched choruses and high-pitched percussions peaking after a crescendo of delays and reverbs. A distinctive piece of work that shows a peculiar drive to always look forward from the Bologna based producer, who once more proves to be one of Italy electronic scene’s most extraordinary talents

Italy’s Gianni Sabato and Alfredo Caforio, collectively known as Rush?, release this eagerly anticipated four tracker on Memento Records. Showcasing their love for both abstract and deep grooves, the duo deliver an ep influenced by classic house music, echoing the sounds of the landscapes of their native homeland. “Lemonade”, a lively tech-house groovy track, is designed for the dancefloor: the bass goes hand in hand with the percussions leading the bubbly rhythm, with vocal samples occasionally breaking down the pace and uncanny sounds filling in the empty background. “Les Amours”‘s moody intro developes into a kick-driven obscure track, while “Little Zoo”‘s screaming voices precede a housey 8-minute tune built around catchy synth melodies. “Uzury Says”‘s deep-house feeling is characterized by distorted vocals, acqueous percussions and atmospheric pads. The product of two separate minds, this ep is a great example of how different ideas work just perfectly well when the need to make unusual music translates itself into a research for unexpected moods
and song structures.

On Memento Split 001, Gas and Acirne come up with two fresh releases who show their love for
unconventional soundscapes and musical emotions.

Gas’ ‘El Merendero’ features low-pitched vocals and throbbing rhythms which give the track a
doomy atmosphere. Warm synths provide a crescendo feeling of paranoia that leads to the distorted
analog acid sounds in the break. A presence that rises from the depths, it ends with disturbing
laughs, a quirky nod to the pleasure and pain mood of this tune.

Acirne’s ‘Luise’ is upbeat and housey, with a driving bass melody and synth tones complete with
Pink Floyd-esque keyboards that fill the breaks and an almost ambient-like vibe that gives a hazy
touch to the track’s ending.

Dave Vega’s remix revolves around a heavy kick and bass structure. Snare, percussions and
distorted sounds fill the space with a menacing tone, while old-school techno synths give the whole
piece a sense of dreariness.

Ernesto Ferreyra’s remix, based on a more minimal beat, big bass textures and uplifting pads, is the
counterpart to Acirne’s more intimate and soft side. Images of dreamy landscapes are portrayed by
layers of sounds. The delay on the keyboards in the final part makes for a sonic trip, a sun-kissed
vision that resonates with colour and passion.

Memento is really happy to present its 008 release, inviting a couple of guys with big shoulders in the electronic scene: Lee Van Dowski at the control andIlario Alicante as a remixer.
The first thing we loved approaching to these tracks was that the guys were going very far from the street where they usually walk safe; of course you will recognize the touch of them (fortunately!), but we’re sure you’ll be surprised exactly like us.
The first track “The Old Faithful” is an endless journey from the darkness into light and viceversa, and seems to continues forever. It starts with a very solid groove, percussive and massive, then it cames slowly a pad that brings us to some safe lands together with an acid delayed synth who allows the track to take off with a very sweet and subtle trancey atmosphere. When you think the track is about to finish, here’s the main lead synth who slowly takes the control, taking your hand till the end of the track.
The Ilario Alicante’s interpretation of this track is a great example of darky witch elegant techno, full of surprises, sudden voices and reversed sounds surround you in every moment supported by some delightful hi hats and a subtle scary groove.

Which is second track “L’Hotel Cherif” Lee goes directly to your stomach.
Kick and bass start in a very self confident way, together with an hi hats riff who makes you think that something very exciting is about to happen. In fact a twisted melodic synth starts his chant giving to the track an epic attitude.
The synth keep on his way opening the cut off and bringing us to the break, where some crazy claps announce the peak.
The Ilario “floor mix” of this track is a dangerous weapon. Techno at his best, hypnotic and emotional, dreamy but solid, where the leading role of the very old school anagogic hats will make you jump!
